Weekly Letter: Exploring Spirituality (Part 1)

Dear Reader,

I don’t remember how old I was when I started to question the religion I grew up in. I do remember little events that accumulated to my feelings that this place I was in wasn’t the safe place (energetically) that I thought it was.

I found another church with kids my age, where I felt more connected and interested, but my parents fought me on going. They didn’t like that it was out of town (although being a country kid, you could argue that about all churches). And then I graduated high school and moved out.

For many years, I was able to ignore church and religion. I worked late on the weekends and no one really pushed religion on me. But it’s always been there, lingering in the background, is it Catholic guilt? I’m not sure, but I believe it led me to my seeking. I believe it led me to yoga.

Rainn Wilson (from the show The Office), wrote a book last year called Soul Boom: Why we need a spiritual revolution. He is of the Baha’i Faith which was something I thought I had not heard of, until the deepening of my awareness brought forward the people I know who also practice it. Reading Wilson’s book may not have led me to a clear conclusion, but it presented the idea of possibility in faith and spirituality.

I’ve been chewing on this until several months ago.

Part 2 coming - Next week
